New Security Update 3.5.16
Posted by Xnuiem on Aug-01-2008 04:44

Due to a recent security hole found in PHPX, here is a patch:

 in /includes/functions.inc.php lines 75 to 89 is the function checkCookie().  In this function change the line:

list($user_id, $username) = $this->core->db->fetch("select user_id, username from
users where sess = '$_COOKIE[PXL]'");
to
list($user_id, $username) = $this->core->db->fetch("select user_id,
username from users where sess = '" . htmlspecialchars($_COOKIE[PXL]) . "'");

That will plug this hole.

New PHPX is finished
Posted by Xnuiem on Jul-16-2008 22:06

I know a lot of people would disagree with the title, but at this point I just no longer have the time or inclination to keep this project going any longer.  I will be working over the next few weeks to remove parts of the site and move other parts.  The domains and trademark will remain with the project, but point over to my website this.rand() .

I  will move the CVS repositiory to a publicly accessible area, either on this server or most likely on sourceforge.  The files will remain up as long as I remember the password to keep them up.  But all changes, bug fixes and enhancements alike are over at this point. I will come up with a way to transfer the entire forum over so all the help/thoughts/links come over, for anyone using the project.

Looking back, I have really enjoyed this project and will always remember it as well as the friends I have made through it. My real weakness was documentation, and as these types of projects have become more and more common, I was unable to attract more general developers to the project, making it pretty much unavoidable that I would eventually have to move on.

Anyways, I hope you all have enjoyed PHPX, and wish you all the best of luck in all you attempt.

Ok, 3.6.0 is going pretty well.  It will have three new features:

Calendar Module (including event tracking like Evite)
ITunes Playlist Importer
Full Page RSS integration

I am just about done with the Calendar Module.  It has been a long time coming, but I think you guys will be happy with the results.

New 3.5.16....finally working....
Posted by Xnuiem on Sep-21-2007 02:06

I know it seems pretty amazing, but I have actually finished 3.5.16.  I am working on cleaning up the files prior to release and then I will put out release canidate 1!  We are going to go through the RC system on this release since it has been so long and I would like to get all the quirks out of the code at this point, so I can turn my attention, such as it is, to working on the file/download module and calendar module due in 3.6.0!

On a personal note, I had a baby!  Well, my wife did at any rate.  Head over to my homepage: http://www.thisrand.com for pictures and stuff, but there is where a lot of my time has gone lately, but still no excuse for a 9 month gap in development.

I am also going to be a lot more active in the forums again, so keep posting, I will actually reply!

New Happy Holidays!
Posted by Xnuiem on Dec-24-2006 22:34

For those of you celebrating a holiday right now, hope you have a safe and good (merry) one.  I will be around this holiday season, but not online too much.

 I am working on .16 and it will have some major changes in it, like a Calendar module, so rest assured, it is coming!

New 3.5.15 Final
Posted by Xnuiem on Nov-28-2006 09:36
At long last, PHPX 3.5.15 has been released.  You can download it over at the Project Page.  If you are already running a Release Canidate of 3.5.15, only update the files, no need to run the installation/upgrade script in the /doc directory.

New PHPX 3.5.15 RC3
Posted by Xnuiem on Sep-13-2006 09:23

PHPX 3.5.15 RC3 is ready for download & testing. ftp://ftp.phpx.org/phpx-3.5.15-upgrade.tar.gz
Please remember this is a release canidate. It has been tested and is pretty much ready to go, but there may be little bugs out there. Nothing major, but it is possible. There are some serious changes on the backend, the new editor being the most obvious one.

This is the last of the Release Canidates, the next release in about a week will be the final version of .15

New PHPX 3.5.15 RC2

I have fixed the forum not displaying issue and installation issues.  If you are already running .15 only update the /includes directory and you will be fine.  Otherwise update per the norm.  Also, due to the SQL errors in the last release canidate, make sure your version is correctly showing .15.  Otherwise run the following code against your database:

 update `config` set `version` = '3.5.15';

New PHPX 3.5.15 RC1

One issue that may crop up is the updating of the Employment tables. If that happens, please report it, I need to figure out how it occurs. Other than that, I have had no issues in updating my websites to 3.5.15.

New News Flash
Posted by Xnuiem on Aug-09-2006 15:53
Ok, to the morons that keep "hacking" the wiki, let's be very clear on something: it requires no skill other than hitting a button to add an entry or modify one on the wiki. It is a public wiki, it is supposed to be accessed by the public.

But so the rest of us can understand and spot these pathetic attempts in the future, instead of putting "Hacked by XXX" where XXX is the name of the person that edited or added the entry, just put "I am starving for attention and have no real skills so this is the best I can do ~ XXX". That way the rest of us know the facts.

New July site of the month.
Posted by Xnuiem on Aug-02-2006 13:19
Iahmel writes "Rebell takes the award for July. His site based on a Halflife two mod has been themed with suitable coloring. Rebell has had a play with the way the site is displayed which is also good as it moves away from the stock standard PHPX themes. I always have an interest where people insert new features to PHPX. Rebell has managed to insert a hit counter at the bottom left of the site. Aside from general color themes Rebell has also taken the time to replace the icons for his news categories. Overall I am really impressed to see that PHPX has managed to be used as a gaming site which can easily stand up to most gaming sites that have been written from scratch by web developers. The only thing I found odd was under Firefox, the menus at the top would display some funny text glitch when you clicked on an option. After opening IE to see if it suffers the same thing I noticed the menus are transparent (very cool looking) and they do not display the same issue when clicked. I guess the site is best viewed in *shudders* Internet Exploder. Ooops, I typod... Smilie

Thanks go out to those who took the time to submit their entries. Now taking entries for August: http://phpx.org/forums.php?forum_id=21&topic_id=1915&limit=15
Get in it!"

New Hosting?
Posted by Xnuiem on Jul-30-2006 21:20
I toyed with the concept of offering hosting once, about 2 years ago, and am again thinking about it. Would anyone be interested in Cpanel hosting with full PHPX installs? I was thinking probably about 10 a month or so.

Sound like something you guys would want?

New PHPX 3.5.14 Relased
Posted by Xnuiem on Jul-25-2006 16:35
Ok, I can't apologize enough for the mess the last two releases were due to poor testing on my part. I have now released 3.5.14 which should be a good release. I did test its installation and upgrade, so all should be good.

So, if you are brave, head over to the Project Page and download yours.

New PHPX 3.5.13
Posted by Xnuiem on Jul-13-2006 15:50
Due to the issues with 3.5.12 and inserting into databases other than 5.0.x, I have pulled 3.5.12, it is still in CVS, but can no longer be downloaded.

To resolve that issue, I have released 3.5.13 which should take care of the problems. It will upgrade from 3.5.4 or better, so no worries about 3.5.12 misssing.
