| PHPX is finished | | Posted by Xnuiem on Jul-16-2008 22:06 | | I know a lot of people would disagree with the title, but at this point I just no longer have the time or inclination to keep this project going any longer. I will be working over the next few weeks to remove parts of the site and move other parts. The domains and trademark will remain with the project, but point over to my website this.rand() . I will move the CVS repositiory to a publicly accessible area, either on this server or most likely on sourceforge. The files will remain up as long as I remember the password to keep them up. But all changes, bug fixes and enhancements alike are over at this point. I will come up with a way to transfer the entire forum over so all the help/thoughts/links come over, for anyone using the project. Looking back, I have really enjoyed this project and will always remember it as well as the friends I have made through it. My real weakness was documentation, and as these types of projects have become more and more common, I was unable to attract more general developers to the project, making it pretty much unavoidable that I would eventually have to move on. Anyways, I hope you all have enjoyed PHPX, and wish you all the best of luck in all you attempt.

I'll always remember you as I learnt more about CMS through your PHPX only. My best wishes for all your future endeavours... It is really disheartening to know that PHPX is winding up.
Life is not a competition to win... It is an experience to be enjoyed fully. Life is beautiful... Love it... Live it... Enjoy it...

X, I suspected as much. Such is the life of an open source project! I appreciate your candor in the matter; there's nothing worse than an OSS project simply left to die, with no indication as to its final demise. I've already started to transition my PHPX site to another CMS, and while I wasn't keen on the idea, I pretty much saw the writing on the wall.
At any rate, I appreciate all you've done with PHPX over the years.

Hello Xnuiem !
Thats really bad but its ok. I really thank you for this project - i have enjoyed it to see the "evolution" of version 3.
I wish you all the best but i hope you can "fix" only the securityholes for us. That would be fine from you

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I just plugged the recent security hole.
I will cover critical holes if at all possible. Glad to see you guys around, hope all is well.
If you guys do transfer to other CMS or Wordpress, holler if you need some help, I can probably give you some ideas or help if you need it.

X, I'd be willing to stick with PHPX and even contribute some time to keeping it up-to-date if I were able to easily integrate some sort of versioning of page/news edits. Do you have anything that might help in this regard?
My goal is to keep the PHPX frontend on my site, and set up zencart to handle the e-commerce stuff (it is totally unsuited for true CMS functionality).
At any rate, any pointers to implementing versioning would be appreciated,

Sure thing. The project is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpxcms/
If you give me your sourceforge ID, I will add you as a developer so you have write access to CVS.
The best way to do page versions is the same way the wiki does it. Basically, you have your main table that holds your current version, then you have another table that holds all your old versions. Check out the database structure for the wiki, and that should help. If not, just holler.
